More protection. More reliable measurements.
Liquid entering the VaDia sensors can cause damage and affect the vacuum measurements. This can be a particular challenge when using VaDia in demanding environments, such as milking robots.
We are therefore excited to introduce Waterproof Filters – a new solution designed to provide an additional layer of protection for your VaDia sensors.
With the Waterproof Filter installed correctly, liquid is prevented from reaching the sensor, helping you keep your VaDia equipment protected and ready for reliable measurements.
Easy to install – but orientation matters
The Waterproof Filter contains a PTFE (0.22 µm) membrane. To achieve the intended waterproof protection, it is important to install the filter in the correct orientation.
The filter has a thinner end and a thicker end:
- The thin end connects to the silicon tube leading directly to the VaDia sensor.
- The thicker end, marked PTFE 0.22 µm, connects to the milk filter holder containing the conventional milk filter.
Correct setup:
VaDia → Waterproof Filter → Milk Filter → Milking Equipment
We recommend using the Waterproof Filter together with the conventional Milk Filter.
The Milk Filter provides the first barrier against liquids and can easily be replaced if liquid enters the silicon tube.
The Waterproof Filter acts as the final barrier, helping to prevent liquid from reaching the VaDia sensor.
Important: Keep the membrane dry
The Waterproof Filter provides excellent protection, but the PTFE membrane is sensitive to liquid. Even a small drop of liquid on the filter membrane can restrict airflow and result in incorrect vacuum measurements. It is therefore important to handle the filter carefully and avoid exposing the membrane to liquid.
You can monitor the measurements using the VaDia+ Live Graph. If the filter becomes blocked, the vacuum graph will typically flatten out or otherwise appear abnormal.
A green LED between milkings indicates that vacuum is present in at least one of the sensors. This can be an indication that the filter is blocked.
Ideal for demanding milking environments
One of the main benefits of the Waterproof Filter is the additional protection it provides to the VaDia sensors.
This is particularly valuable when using VaDia in milking robots and other harsh environments, where the sensors may be exposed to milk, water and cleaning processes. For robots equipped with flushing systems, we recommend turning the flushing system off during VaDia measurements, if possible.
